Basketball

Hey Ballahz, (my basketball team)… You guys are a sweet bunch of guys, not only because we won today’s game, but because you guys played with good sportsmanship. Let’s keep up the friendly attitude toward the other team and do our best and have fun. After playing with you guys, I feel like I should stay another year at GCC and not graduate early. Thanks for playing guys! We gotta get a photo before this is all over.

Remember the Psalmist:
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14
And yes, we should be praising God with that song even when we lose.

Funeral Party

This weekend, I went home for my cousin’s funeral. I cried tears of joy and a little bit of sorrow during singspiration. It was really exciting to see Ben lead worship and bring us back to the cross with songs like “When I Survey the Wonderous Cross” and “Blessed Be the Name.” Glory to God. My cousin is now in heaven.

I wish I could have spent more time with my friends and family back home. Those of you back home, you will continue to be in my prayers.

Now, I have two homes. When I am at one place, I long for the other.

My dad says I will make some of my best friends in my college years. I know this is definitely true for me. Friends are really encouraging. I hope I’m as encouraging as they are.

I was glad to be back in Grove City on Sunday. Sunday school was very helpful. It reminded me that I should be purposeful in glorifying God, every day, in all the choices that appear before me. At worship, the sermon was on Revelation 21, which was a great comfort to me. After that, I did the usual; lunch, nap, sermon party, dinner, evening worship at Hillcrest, and then college fellowship.

Some other randomness:
I slept at my cousin’s house Friday night. I didn’t read any of the textbooks that I packed on the airplane. Matt’s grandma treated us to dinner Saturday night. Andy and I sang a hymn (Great is Thy Faithfulness) in the car on the way back from Hillcrest’s evening worship service. I was very giddy, bouncy, and energetic walking to and from the Hughes.

Phone call

My friend Jacob, from the Sovereign Grace in Fairfax, called me up. It was really cool to talk to him again. We were able to talk about God’s goodness and share prayer requests. I was re-reminded of God’s grace.

Thanks Jacob!

New Life

Today we went out to George Junior Republic for the first time this semester. GJR is high school for troubled youth. We met the guys. The guys are really talkative and open. We opened up with a game of spoons. Then we did our Bible study. The group seems to be open to “spiritual” things. We talked about God’s word- Hebrews 4:12-13. We also talked about Jesus being the way, the truth, and the life. Our cottage parent wants to sit in on our studies. I wonder if he is a Christian.

Broken people are the most receptive. Some of these guys know how bad they are. They commented on Hebrews 4:13 and how they were doomed. But Christ can be their hope. God’s word is active and living. Please pray for the cottage ministry as we continue to minister to them. Pray that God will change their hearts.

Some of their prayer requests:
- My upcoming court case.
- My two year old daughter.

Cool!

- Next weekend I will be going home for my cousin’s funeral. God is faithful. He has made it really easy for me to plan my return.
- I got a good grade back for my 6 credit Washington D.C. Summer internship.
- I was accepted into a Polital Science Honorary named Pi Sigma Alpha.

Contentment

God has been teaching me to be content. (Not to say that I am a master of it now… far from it. I can not feign humility.)

I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” – Philippians 4:11

It is so easy to think of the bad things that have happened to me in the weeks. I had a pneumothorax, a computer stolen, a dear cousin pass away, and I can make up a list of many other things to complain about. However, now I see that God will/has used these experiences for His own glory. I did not see things properly.

I have been blessed with so many possessions. I have been blessed with family and friends. I have been blessed with the gift of life. Because of these trials, I am reminded to value the gifts God has given me so much more.

Oh, there is so much to praise God for! My trials have helped me to develop closer relationships with friends. By the way, I have a sweet suite. Trials have reminded me to enjoy life as a gift from God. Most importantly, trials have pushed me to fellowship with God.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” – James 1:2-3

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

Our Ranks are Increasing

So, Andy and I had our first sermon party on Friday the 17th. Then on Sunday the 19th, Russ joined us for the 2nd sermon party. On Sunday the 26th, Jon joined us for the 3rd sermon party. Our ranks are increasing steadily. We need more food and drink supplies for the next “Sermon party.”

Will there be a “Sermon Party” every Sunday? That’s probably the best day for most of us. However this upcoming Sunday we might take a break since Russ and I might be having lunch (which they call dinner for some reason) with a Church family. Andy might be doing something similar in his church. Anyhow, more peepz are welcome to our future sermon parties.
