The Mormons are Coming

The Mormons are coming to speak with me again. I conversed with two young Mormon lads last week. The grace that Mormons preach is no grace at all. I pity their sad state. They have no assurance of salvation. They are working their butts off to “merit grace.”

I shared the doctrines of grace with my visitors. We are dead in our sins and need to be born again to be saved. Jesus Christ came to atone for the sins of His sheep. The just shall live by faith. Justification leads to sanctification. Experiencing God’s grace results in good works that flow from a heart of gratitude. This is not what their heretical book teaches.

I realize that I can not convince Mormons of the proper understanding of Scripture. It is scary how blind these individuals are. It is possible to know about God, but not know God personally. This is a convicting truth. I should be motivated to study diligently about my great God, while asking Him to reveal Himself to me. “Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them”-

I pray that God would reveal Himself to my visitors. Only God can open the eyes of their hearts. I should not pass these individuals off as unsaveable… it is my duty to be faithful, not to change hearts. Please pray for me to use my time wisely, to be loving, and to give a reason for the hope that is within me.

… that law school changes a person. Students come in as idealists but leave as skeptics and legal realists. Once one learns about the system, one sees law as simply a tool for prediction and manipulation in the struggle for power. I hope and pray that law school won’t impact me negatively; but that I will strive for its noble uses, such as reconciliation and justice. (While realizing that perfect justice is impossible in this world and that true peace can only be found when one is at peace with God.)

I also hope that:
- I would be inquisitive and thoughtful- not skeptical of all knowledge and truth in general. There is such a thing as “truth” and it is embodied in Jesus Christ.
- I would be able to empathize/sympathize with those in suffering.
- I would hate injustice and sin all the more.
- I won’t become more argumentative for the sake of arguing. Laywers love to argue. Instead, I need to encourage my own thoughts and the thoughts of others to be captive to Christ.

Appropriate Requests

Today at evening worship, Dr. Schultz reminded me to pray for things that are in accord with God’s will. God blessed Solomon because when granted one request, he did not ask for wealth, long life, and power. God willingly grants us the things we need and request if we ask in a spirit that is in accord with His will. God loves to grant us good gifts. It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked for wisdom.

And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

From Canada to Virginia

It is August 21st already!

Just to recap, I was in Canada from the 7th to the 13th on a boat trip. The trip was alot of fun. It was a great time of swimming, playing games, and talking with friends and family from church. (I wish I could have done more of the latter. It seemed like we were too busy having fun to sit around and just socialize and fellowship. I could probably have done a better job initiating conversations.)

On the 15th, my parents drove me down to Virginia. I completed the first week of Law school orientation. Time really flies by quickly! I’ve been making alot of new friends and getting into the routine of things.

Please pray that:
- I would be humble and rely on God. His grace will be sufficient for me as he molds me!
- In the mist of my tedious studies, I will have time to meet with God and keep him as my cornerstone. (In other words, that I would cast off worldliness and idolatry — that money and grades would mean less and integrity and godliness more.)
- Other things: time management, cooking, exercise, emotional stability: fight off loneliness, that I would have time to pray for my friends and the burdens God has laid on my heart

Not Sure If I Should Publish This

Dear Lord,

I need You. Grant me a spirit of brokenness. I need more of this. I need your help. Help me to trust You, O Lord!

Lord, I am insecure. Help me to get my security from you. Help me to have faith in your loving kindness. Give me faith to trust your goodness. Grant me patience Lord to live life in your timing.

Help me to trust You, O Lord! Grant me faith and grace. Your grace is sufficient for me!

Help me to trust You, that You will work in the lives of my church and family.

Help me to trust You, Lord, that You LOVE me!

O! The promise; all things work together for those who love God, to those he has called to his good purposes!

Lord, help me to remember the cross and preach the gospel to myself.

Transform me from being so self-centered, and worrying about my future, my life and me me me. Help me to pray for my friends, family, church, and not just see the temporary. Your glory is what I should live for!

Please give me wisdom Lord. I have no clue what I will be doing in my life years from now. Nor do I know how to process my feelings. Lord, you promise to give wisdom to those who seek it. My future, is in your hands.

Lord, teach me to love! I dont know how to love. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeding, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Lord, teach me to love!

That your son would die for me! This was the greatest demonstration of your love. I really don’t need anything else! Grant me peace and joy from knowing you. Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies……..

Summer Conference
