Praying for All

By | March 22, 2005

“The Lord does not wish “that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 ESV)

I had this wrongful thinking that I was not to pray for some people. But I think it was a lack of love on my part. As Christians we are told to pray for all people and not to give up hope in their salvation. I’m trying to understand the Psalms though, where God prays for justice on the wicked. Should I pray that the wicked would be saved and also that God’s will would be done and he would be glorified?

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. (1 Timothy 2:1)

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
