An Eternal Investment with Present Dividends

Luke 18:28-30

And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.

Are we missing out in life by following Jesus? The world often thinks that Christianity is a poor short term investment — while you may be promised a better future life, your life now will be greatly impeded. But this is not what the Bible teaches. Instead, it teaches that Jesus is both the wisest short term and long term investment.

J.C. Ryle explains, “Many times more, in this verse, means, the believer shall find in Christ, a full equivalent for anything that he is obliged to give up for Christ. He shall find such peace and hope and joy and comfort and rest in communion with the Father and the Son, that his losses shall be more than counterbalanced by his gains. The Lord Jesus Christ shall be more to him than property, or relatives, or friends.”

The world needs to know that they are not getting the best out of life now. We are created to see and savor Jesus Christ. Christians get Jesus now, and Jesus later. Jesus gives us himself and what we have in Him can not be taken away. He is our shelter and foundation. Jesus is ALL that I need. He is the living water to be enjoyed by His children! Whoever sins is a slave to sin, but Jesus Christ is truth, and the truth will set a person free. If we repent of our sins and believe on him, we can get in on this investment.

John 4:13-14

“…Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Psalm 34:8-10

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
